THE HOTEL

The Hotel

Who has never imagined spending an afternoon in Itapuã after listening to the verses of the poet Vinicius de Moraes? In this idyllic scenery of exuberant nature, just where the poet lived in Salvador, is located Casa Di Vina Boutique Hotel. In front of the paradisiacal sea of Bahia, in the comfort of a hotel of historical charm, we invite you to a unique experience of art, gastronomy and good living, where nostalgia and the present time awaken all the senses.

In the private refuge of photos, manuscripts and passions, you have the privilege of knowing the history of one of the greatest Brazilian artists during his time in Bahia. It was here that, in the early 70s, Vinicius de Moraes and his Bahian wife Gessy Gesse lived their love story. With preserved original architecture and a collection kindly provided by the actress, the hotel now houses a small Memorial that delights fans of Bossa Nova.

Decorated with the poetry of Itapuã, our 76 rooms invite you to feel at home. From open windows, it is possible to hear the noise of the sea and the gentle breeze that makes songs in the coconut trees. You can choose the beautiful view to the beach of Farol de Itapuã or contemplate our tropical landscaped garden with brightly colored plants and sometimes sculptural foliage.

We carefully chosen the suite where the poet used to sleep to be the hotel's main accommodation. The Vinicius de Moraes Suite has photos and original objects from the period, as well as a cinematic bathtub and a mini library with the main works of the artist, many of them written there. A greatly sought room for romantic occasions, where unintentionally said phrases become verses to always remember.

Specialized in Mediterranean and Bahian cuisine, our restaurant is famous in the town. The chef's abuse of chemistry of local ingredients and harmonizes seafood with an extensive list of wines. For breakfast the guests can enjoy a delicious buffet of fruits, homemade cakes, artisan breads and tapioca beiju made on the spot, sitting on the balcony of the poet's house or barefoot in the garden.

Close to the airport, among the dunes and the most beautiful beaches of the city, the hotel is surrounded by exuberance of the native nature. Inserted in a beautiful green area, it offers relaxation areas for adults and playground for children. After a refreshing swim in the sea, it's time to take a bath in our pools, or brown your skin on the chaise lounge. You can also swim in the amoeba-shaped poet's pool and look at delicate tiles by artist Udo Knoff.
Here, the sun guides your feet in the sand and time passes more slowly. Let the poetry of each corner take you to an unforgettable experience in the neighborhood immortalized by the songs of Vinicius and Caymmi. Saravá!

History

The The story of our hotel is special and begins with a summer love affair. When in 1981 Renata came to Salvador carnival, she could not imagine the turnaround that destiny prepared for her. Paulistana, daughter of Italians, Renata found a very different world in Bahia: she immediately fell in love with the exuberant nature and the charm of the Bahians, more specifically the Bahian Zé, whom she soon married.

Ready to move to Salvador, Zé asked her where she would like to live. She promptly answered: Itapuã! Her imagination was full of beautiful verses about this neighborhood, where they finally made their love nest. The music and the inspiring muse, had taken Renata from the hustle and bustle of São Paulo to the warm arms of the famous afternoons in Itapuã.

Years later in 1992, they built a seafront small hotel on the land next to the house of the poet Vinicius de Moraes. Receiving travelers from all over the world, sharing with them the cultural richness of the place, working while looking at that big sea, everything seemed like a dream to Renata, despite the daily sweat demanded by the new project.

Finally in 2000, the poet's house was offered for sale by the Tanuri’s family who lived there. Renata, as a determined fan of bossa nova, gathered them savings to buy the house that today encompasses a memorial free to public , a hotel and a restaurant. A long and pleasant job of preserving the memory done with the help of her husband Zé, her three daughters and also the actress Gessy Gesse (Vinicius de Moraes' wife), who lived in the house in the 70's and today, more than a friend, is part of this family.

We are passionately a family-run hotel specially made for families, friends and lovers of the arts, designed for what really matters in life: the constant and delicious celebration of the art of encounter.

New Name

In 2022 we will have completed 30 years of existence, and for this special date we have something new: Mar Brasil Hotel is now Casa Di Vina Boutique Hotel - a new name we have chosen with affection to better translate the charm experience that we have been maturing since the 1990's.

Throughout our journey we have experienced many reinventions. We started small, in 1992, when we built the walls of the then Mar Brasil Apart Hotel as a family. At the time, it was common to receive long-stay travelers and with them we learned the art of serving with affection.

In 2000 we bought the house next door built by the poet Vinicius de Moraes, and we won the friendship of his muse Gessy Gesse. Besides the long stay and corporate public, we began to receive many families and Bossa Nova fans.

In 2015, we’ve partnered with the chef Maria dos Santos and the sommelier Stefano Bof, inaugurating our restaurant “Casa Di Vina” on the porch of the poet's house. Due to the delicious cuisine and the memorial free public, we received even more visitors and were recognized by Vogue and Forbes. Imagine the joy! Our experience began to attract super romantic couples and artists enchanted by the poetry of the place.

Many friendships along the way, many challenges, many faces of the same dream that now has a new baptism. Welcome to the home of art lovers! Welcome to Casa Di Vina!
